Why do so many wigs look fake? More importantly, how do I find one that looks natural?
I was trying on wigs today, and they all looked… well, fake. They all seemed to be too “big” at the crown, you know what I mean? They seemed to make my head look kinda oblong. The hairline didn’t look quite right; all of the hair seemed to come from the top of the wig and come right down. What’s up with that?
How do I find a realistic looking wig? Will I have to get an expensive one made of real hair, or will I be able to find a good synthetic one? I really don’t have a lot of money right now.
For reference, I was looking at chin to shoulder length straight or slightly wavy synthetic wigs in medium to dark brown shades. This is what I’m most interested in, but I’m willing to compromise a bit, if other lengths or textures will look more realstic.
A wig is just like styling your own hair. You’ll probably have to find a wig style that you like and then take it to a salon to have them cut, layer and style the wig exactly to your head. It seems pointless, I know, but that’s the only way that I’ve ever heard of making a wig look natural. It’s because the wigs are just made with the same basic shape, it doesn’t conform to various head shapes and personal preference.
