Urgent Help With My Purchased Wig?
I just purchsed a long, straight wig from Cosplaymagic.com (Character: Tifa Lockheart Wig) but found that it got a bit wavy from being in the package too long. Is there a way to make it straight again? Could I try using a hairstraightner or will that damage it? The hair fiber is made from “Kanekalon” by the way, Thanks!
The best way to straighten a wig is to use the hot water method. I actually just straightened a wig with this method yesterday.
Anyway, here’s how you do it.
Put the wig on a wig head and then take a plunger and stick the pole into the hole at the bottom of the head (there should be one on most styrofoam heads). Carefully comb out the wig and then set this plunger/head combo into your bath tub. Make sure that the wig won’t touch the ground once you get it wet. Now, go boil some water. Once it’s rapidly boiling, take it off the heat and take it to the wig. The ideal temperature is just below boiling, and I find that the water reaches this by the time I walk to my bathroom. Anyway, slowly pour the water over the wig until it’s drenched. Spray in some conditioner and then carefully comb through the wig. This pulls the fibers straight so that they’ll hang stick-straight instead of having a touch of wave left. Be very careful while combing the wig, or you’ll pull out hairs. It’s really easy to lose fibers because they get loose when they’re hot and wet. This is why you need to comb the wig before straightening and one of the main reasons why you need the spray-in conditioner. The other reason you need the conditioner is because straightening a wig in this method makes it lose some of its softness and shine. The conditioning should prevent this. Now, go boil more water and repeat these steps about 2-4 more times, or until you think it’s going to be straight enough. Leave the wig for about 3-7 hours so it can properly cool and dry. Brush out the wig again once it’s dry and there you go. Perfectly straight wig. ^^
