Is protein powder bad for you?
I’m a vegetarian and I’m trying to build muscle, but still stick to 1200(ish) calories a day. I know this can be done, I’ve seen it done… but not with vegetarians. Even then, my hair is breaking and I just feel like I’m barely getting 50g.
I make smoothies every couple of nights. Just fruit and ice (I hate the taste of yogurt). I was thinking of maybe buying some protein powder and adding that to smoothies. Or using it in some kind of granola bar recipe. I have a few questions though:
What is protein powder actually made of? I know it’s a milk by-product, how can I ensure it’s vegetarian?
And also, is it bad for you? It seems kind of…un-natural to just put protein powder into your body. I try and stick close to nature with my diet.
No! Protein powder is an excellent source when you lack protein and great for post-workout!
