Best laptop for me?!?

Lately I’ve been looking for my own laptop since I’ve used a family computer my entire life.
I’m a highschool student, so I need plenty of space for my assignments. I also browse the internet often, do mild gaming and download music/movies often. Do you have any suggestions of good laptops that you have used or find might fit perfectly with what I need?

Brands, definitely not a mac. I’ve always used Windows and I’m just used to it. I’d like it to be portable, but extremely small. Maybe a 14″? I’d like a disk drive, a port to plug in atleast my ipod charger, and a fairly high battery life.
I’m not very picky, my requirements can be interpreted pretty broadly.
