Does anyone know how to stain a piece of wood a different color of stain than the one already on it?
I bought a crib that has three sides with a dark, espresso brown color stain. The fourth side of the crib has a cherry color stain. I would like to get the fourth side to look like the other three sides and I would like to do it myself. Does anyone have any ideas? I know that I could just repaint the crib a different color, but I love the espresso brown color.
You can do it yourself but it is going to involve a little bit of work on your part. First off, your going to have to take the side of the crib off that you want to restain. Next you can use chemicals to remove the top coat and stain (which you can find in any Home Depot or Lowe’s). Then you’ll have to sand the wood down to take the rest of the stain off.
You have to watch out that you do not remove the edging that was done to the wood. Start out using a 100 grit sand paper. Wipe of excess dust before applying the desired color. Apply the stain you want, wiping off the excess stain. Let dry then sand lightly with a super fine steel wool or sand paper and apply a second coat. Hope this helps!
