How can I get the ‘kinks’ out of a wig?
Hi,
I recently ordered a wig as a gift and it was sent from abroad. It took a while to get to me and spent a few weeks in transit all squashed up in a box, so when I get it, the hair was all kinked where it had been folded up and its not really sitting properly. It says on the label that it is made from 100% modacrylic fiber (I’m not really sure what that is) but it says not to use heated stling tools on it. WOuld anyone know how I could straighten the hair out without damaging the wig? I have tried to spray a bit of water and comb it straight but it hasn’t made much difference. It says on the label that it can be washed with a mild shampoo…does that mean that I can wash the whole wig – inside cap and all?

I know it says not to use heated styling items but this is not going to hurt it…I would try steaming it. Hang it up and use a steam iron. Hold it real close about 3 inches but be careful not to actually touch the wig. Press the steam button, and let it steam real good for about 3 or 4 minutes, this adds a bit of moisture and will help relax the synthetic material the wig is made from. Be careful not to scorch the wig . While still warm brush or comb the wig downward. This ought to do the trick
Yes, you can wash it but not in a washer. You need to buy a head form. Put the wig on it, pin it securely to the form, and then wash it like you would your own hair. Soak it down under the shower add a little shampoo, do this gently and with out bunching the hair of the wig to avoid tangles and knots. I just usually squeeze it through the hair well, then rinse under the shower and comb it out and let dry over nite.
