Is this a “fair” joint custody for the father?

My friends husband has joint custody with his ex (never been married to her before) for their 2 year old son. Every week they “exchange” their son. He pays her a good amount of child support for basically 2 weeks every month. How come it is called a “joint custody” and he still has to pay her over 500 dollar monthly while she does not work and doesn’t send her son to daycare that she said she would? She doesn’t provide health care for him as well, which his father does. What is “joint” and right about paying another lazy parent to be a parent and to take care of their own child. Is it not her responsibility too to take care of him instead getting herself custom made wigs and uggs boots?

This is their arrangement and not your business. Your friend’s husband’s ex? How does that possibly have anything to do with you and do you really think you know the full story?

Anyway, even with joint custody and equal time child support can be payable if there is a discrepancy in the incomes. $500/month is an lot for him to pay but presumably he either makes a lot so it’s fair, or he agreed to it because he wants to help out.

If she doesn’t want to work and send her son to daycare then who are you to criticise? That’s her choice, the son is only 2, I wouldn’t put my kid in full time daycare then if I could possibly help it. I highly doubt she has enough for custom made wigs solely from child support, it’s not much to live on. You criticise her for not using daycare, then you criticise her for not “taking care of her child”. So basically she’s living the high life on $500/month while the child is totally abused and neglected? Yeah…
