In what way specifically is human life or existence a “gift”?

Let us not consider deformity at birth or circumstance before a decision or risk is taken to bring about life is made. Rather, that which we may commonly agree is human consciousness as the majority of people would perceive. Religious and similarly ambiguous answers can be easily discarded. I am curious about suffering, boredom, malaise and so forth. Admittedly, I find gratitude in small observations but they are fleeting. I have told my mother and father many times that I did not ask to be born, and found the responses insufficient. It is understood that a gift does not need to be asked for in order to appreciate it, but many gifts can be returned or refused. If hypothetically suicide is not an option, what is the explanation to the commonly used phrase “life is a gift”? Please let us not split hairs or squabble about the aforementioned syntax. I think I have been clear enough.

Since you did not create yourself then by definition what you have received (life) must be a gift. Emotions are gifts too. Why would we have been “given” the full range of emotional capability if we were not intended to experience it? We also have the gift of free-will, which implies the gift of will-power, which gives us the ability to regulate emotion. Sounds like a pretty good “gift” to me. When death comes, that too will be a gift. To quote the famous aviatrix Jackie Cochrane “Death is life’s greatest adventure”. Don’t be so miserly with self-gratitude.
