What the hell is self-hate anyway?
I like to straighten my hair. In fact I have a relaxer, I’ve had one since I was eleven. Sometimes I’ll wet my hair and wear it in it’s sort of natural state. If I don’t have time to fix up my hair, I’ll put on a wig. I’m quite fond of colored contacts. I think they’re fun. I wore a pair of violet contacts once and people actually thought they were my real eyes. I do this for the fashion and for fun, I’m not trying to be something I’m not. So why is it self-hate? James Brown sang ” I’m black and I’m proud” and he had a perm. And another thing, I like men of all races, including black. However, black guys seldom approach me so I date guys from other ethnic groups. Why is it self-hate when you date outside your race? Go ahead and answer, but please don’t be rude or stupid about it.
I don’t know but it sounds like someone’s jealous of you. Sounds like you’re having fun playing with how you look, which sounds perfectly healthy to me. It would look more like self-hate if you got a bowl cut, wore drab, baggy clothes and never went out.
Does whoever said this think you have to be natural – no make-up, no accessories, and only stick xenophobically to your own group or else it means you’re trying to escape from who you are? I think what you describe sounds like you’re comfortable enough with yourself to have a wide repertoire of looks and friends. Ignore the sour grapes others are trying to make you swallow.
