I Need Help With A Hair Color Choice?
My hair is a natural, sandy blonde. I have to get highlights every once and a while because the roots are growing darker. But recently, I’ve been wanting to change the color up. My choices have been left and right, like dying the whole thing dark red (my parents would never approve) or getting light brown/eggplant colored highlights.
I’ve been really contemplating the colors I should get. But my friends and sister told me I would never get my same hair color back again.
I don’t want any highlights/colorings that are brunette or a caramel color. Everyone in my family is brunette, so I want to make a statement.
If there are any hair stylists that have any opinions, please, voice it!

oh, and for my length, I have short hair. It ends at the middle of my neck and I have to flat iron it.
when I got highlights (my hair is light champagne blonde) I went for black to make a statement. Your friends and sister are wrong, you WILL get your hair color back, but you may have to wait for it to grow out, depending on the type of dye used to make the highlights (mine was done with a tint, so it gradually washed out to nothing). I dye my hair bright colors with semi-permanent dye (no processors) all the time, and I’ve yet to ruin it (it’s currently deep green, fading back to blonde in a couple of weeks). HOWEVER, if you dye it with PERMANENT dye (with processors), you will have to go to a salon professional to get the color corrected back to your natural hair color.
If you want to stand out, but still want a natural hair color, I would go for black or red highlights (called ‘lowlights’ when done in a color darker than your natural hair). Ask your stylist to use a tint so that the color will gradually wash out without damaging your hair. Otherwise, if you want really dramatic highlights, I would suggest a semi-permanent dye like Manic Panic in any hue of the rainbow (purples look especially good on blondes). Clairol used to make a good wash-out dye called Extreme-Effects, but I’ve not seen them lately. If you want to be able to have brightly colored streaks but can’t due to school rules, etc. I would consider either clip-in extensions (Manic Panic carries a few, as does Hot Topic and Claire’s) or a temporary colored styling gel (again, Manic Panic, Hot Topic etc.) Good luck and I hope you find something that suits you.
