How do I get my kitten to stop begging me for people food?

I have a kitten who is 6 months old. I do not feed her human food. I mix Fancy Feast wet food with Royal Canin dry food. She was okay with this for a month or two. Now she is begging for people food like a dog would. If you eating, she will run & jump on you just to get to your food. How do I correct this behavior? Noone gives her human food in the house either. She is starting to smell me cooking & preparing food. She will meow at me as if she is saying, “Can I have some?”. She is a Persian.

Mine did that too. I took a plate and set it on the couch for about an hour a night, and when he walked up to it I squirted him with the water gun. Eventually it all registered. I don’t recommend squirting while you are eating and he is on you though. In that situation you need to grab and put him on the ground – no scritches, nothing. Just pick him up and set him down, and ignore him. It’s also not a bad idea to give him his food when you are going to get yours. A strict diet will help regiment him to be interested in his own food every time it’s chow time.
