how do i convince my mother to let me express my creativity through my body image?
alright so i’m really into the whole indie rocker emo / scene style clothing and i really want hair extensions but my mother wont let me i’ve asked her why and she can’t find a reason why she won’t let me get them. she doesn’t let me wear skulls for who knows why and she wont let me dye my hair. . . At all, im not trying to dye my whole head a color i just want to color my bangs and the tips of my hair. i am stuck buying fake facial piercings because she doesn’t want me to get them which doesn’t bother me that much but it still bothers me. to me it feels as if she trying to force me to wear what she would wear which is bad considering the fact that she’s in her 30′s and i’m not even 15 yet. yes some of you think that that’s a little young but i don’t care i mean i really don’t act my age at all nor do i look it.
you really need to convince your mother that this does not affect you in the long term. that is probably what she is most worried about. basically, don’t get the piercings and don’t get your hair dyed permanently. find out whats annoying your mother about your image and talk to her about it. explain why you think it would be a good idea. i was trying to get my room redecorated and i convinced my mother that it was a good idea through simply talking to her about it. seriously, it works. maybe take her shopping with you so she feels more involved. if you cant bear to go shopping with your mother, look up some shops that have online counterparts and show her the clothes you plan to buy. she should let you wear skulls but i get the problem with the hair and piercings-to her they seem permanent and give out a bad vibe. tell her you understand this but you feel like your relationship would improve should you be allowed to express yourself etc. give her some nonsense about self-expression and work hard at it. for example write out what you would spend should you buy the sort of clothes/accessories/etc. that she wants you to buy and write out a comparison that makes the stuff you want to buy look cheaper. you could also try writing a persuasive essay to show her how much you care about this and that its not just a whim. keep telling her about self-expression etc. and she should give in if you try hard enough.
