can you put pick-ups in and drill a hole in the body of an acoustic guitar?
Ok, I have an acoustic guitar that I want to be able to hook up to my amp, is there a way I can do this without getting one of those clip pick-ups? And how much would it cost?
I wouldn’t suggest you destroy your guitar like that. electric guitars actually relay on a small amount of current running though the strings to make the frequency to pick up the notes off the electric guitar pick ups.
The idea my theory would work but acoustic guitar strings are set up and plated with bronze which cannot manipulated with a magnet.
If you want to put hardware into your guitar you do actually got to have a decent know how of electronically work on how to regulated and convert the power flow from the amp to the guitar.
All electric guitars have a set amount of resistors in side the guitar hardware for knobs, mainly volume, sometimes tone to make the voltage correct, to not burn out the pick ups.
I suggest you just pitch just a few bucks for the pick up insert which can be from 30 bucks to 100 bucks max, Or just buy an acoustic electric where the pick up magnets are over charged to pick up the steel and cut through the bronze.

I forgotten to add Acoustic guitar pick ups are more looked at as an over glorified microphone. That is why acoustic electrics need a special amp and have an equalizer on them. The pick ups you can get for them I say are the best bet. But there is never any reason to destroy a perfectly find acoustic. I you were to spend the time to destroy the acoustic to put in the pick up even if you are sucsessful with it, you will destroy the resonation the guitar is natrually given by the maker.
The bodys of acoustic guitars have many wooden beams run through it which if you even remove one and put the strings back on you will end up snapping off the bridge or destroying the body of the guitar. Plus the money you would put into making it an acoustic with a pick up is the equivlant of buying an acoustic electric or even an electric guitar.
